Film critic and author/editor of numerous publications including Kinokuniya Eiga Sosho 1-3 (Kinokuniya), Michael Cimino Dokuhon (boid) and Československá nová vlna (Kokusho Hankokai). Also translated such books as Peter Bogdanovich’s Who The Hell’s In It (Esquire Japan) and Samuel Fuller’s autobiography (boid) among others, and continues to contribute writings to magazines, movie theater programs, booklets, etc.

Born in Tokyo. Graduated Keio University Faculty of Literature, Department of Philosophy, aesthetics and art history major. Since 1990s, She has been at the forefront of the Japanese art scene as a writer / art journalist / art producer. 2003 spring, launched an art bar TRAUMARIS in Roppongi, was moved to Ebisu NADiff building, as an alternative space TRAUMARIS where art exhibitions, live performances, food and drink can be enjoyed. After closed the space, is currently involved in various art activities beyond the boundaries of the genre as an art producer. A jury for Yokohama Dance Collection’s competition from 2011 to 2016. Curator at the Toyota Municipal Museum of Art, where in recent years he has curated exhibitions including “Yoshitomo Nara for better or worse Works: 1987-2017” (2017), “VISION part 1: On Light / Light On: in the celebration of 25th Anniversary of the Toyota Municipal Museum of Art” (2020), and “BEUYS + PALERMO” (joint exhibition with the Museum of Modern Art, Saitama and the National Museum of Art, Osaka; 2021-22).

Editor and art journalist. Formerly associate editor of Brutus magazine, where he was in charge of such special issues as Do you know Hiroshi Sugimoto?, Jakuchu o mita ka (Have you seen Jakuchu)?, Kokuho-tte nani (What is a national treasure)? and Kinkyu tokushu Inoue Takehiko. Co-edited publications include Cartier, Crystallization of Time, Takashi Murakami’s Superflat Collection, Korin & Modern Art and teamLab-tte nanimono (Who or what is teamLab)? Adjunct professor at Meiji Gakuin University and Aichi University of the Arts. Member of the external evaluation committee of the Tokyo Metropolitan Teien Art Museum.

Contemporary artist
Tabaimo debuted in 1999 with the animation-incorporating installation “Japanese Kitchen,” her graduation project at Kyoto University of Art and Design, which won the Kirin Contemporary Art Grand Prize. She has displayed her work at several international art exhibitions, from the inaugural Yokohama Triennale in 2001 to the 2011 Venice Biennale, where she was the representative artist at the Japan Pavilion. She has worked on stage-related collaborations in recent years, and in 2016 held an extensive solo exhibition themed on the concept of “Utsushi” at the Seattle Art Museum. Tabaimo provided the illustrations for Shuichi Yoshida’s novel “Kokuho” (“National Treasure”), which was serialized in the morning edition of the Asahi Shimbun newspaper from January 2017 to May 2018, and displayed her first oil paintings at a 2019 solo exhibition held at the Pola Museum Annex in Ginza. “Sabi kara deta mi” (“Fruits borne out of rust”), a work of performance and video art conceived and directed by Tabaimo, toured the United States in February and March 2020. She is currently working on another piece of performance art together with a circus performer based in France.

Received a Master’s Degree (in theater studies and dance) from Waseda University, Graduate School of Letters, Arts and Sciences. Active as a writer mainly on topics related to contemporary theater, traditional performing arts, ballet, dance, musical and opera. She currently writes regularly for the online magazine Ontomo, focusing on theatre from an auditory perspective (“Mimi kara miru butai,” https://ontomo-mag.com/tag/mimi-kara-miru/), the ballet magazine Swan Magazine (“Bare fan ni okuru opera mangekyo”), and the ballet-focused online publication Ballet Channel (“Suteji kosaten,” https://balletchannel.jp/genre/ayako-takahashi). First prize winner at the 10th Japan Dance Critics’ Award.
